What is Hypnotherapy?

What is Hypnotherapy? Hypnotherapy is counselling, in the state of hypnosis Hypnosis has been used as a relaxation technique for hundreds of years. It has been developed as a tool for use in therapy to make the proces quicker and more direct than some traditional therapies.
During therapy sessions I use my voice to talk you into a relaxed states whereby your subconscious is more open to change.
We can use Suggestion Therapy: This is widely used to help build self confidence or to become a non-smoker.   We can use Regression Therapy: This can be helpful if you have suffered trauma in your past, perhaps from your childhood, but at any time of your life. We can hypnotherapy to think about the trauma in a safe way and release the emotions that are tied to the event; allowing you to heal and move on.     But what is Hypnosis?   Hypnosis is a state of relaxation, it is often likened to the feeling one gets when just about to fall asleep. Your therapist helps you to relax by using a screed (like a script), this part always reminds me of telling a bedtime story to child. During this time you visibly relax as your mind drifts and you visualize the story. Your brainwaves move from beta to alpha and then theta. The majority of hypnotherapy takes place at the theta level; however a deep hypnotic state would produce delta waves.
Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to lessen the filter between the conscious and subconscious and enables you to discover the route of your problem much faster, thus enabling you to have fewer sessions and use these sessions to greater effect. You feel empowered as you are able to recall incidents, events and feelings which you have long forgotten and discuss the effect of them on their everyday existence in a safe way with my support.
You may find that there is often a tremendous release of frustration in the you, and you are left with a greater understanding of yourself.
In keeping with conventional therapy, the role of the hypnotherapist continues to be a supporting one, however the journey of self-discovery generally takes less time, thereby reducing the financial impact, this alone can have a significant impact on your stress levels.

Is it safe?

For most people, yes it is.
There are contraindications to the use of hypnotherapy - schizophrenia, certain heart conditions, epilepsy, those under the influence of drugs or alcohol. If you have one or more of these contraindications, your therapist can discuss the use of hypnotherapy with your GP, orother medical practitioner as you may be OK to use it still.

As hypnosis is a state of relaxation some people do find it difficult to relax, and others find that the sheer fact of relaxing can release emotions that they have been holding in. For these reasons it is important that you only use a qualified, experienced pracitioner who you trust.
